Congratulations to the girls Team on Being Conference Champs with a record of 12-0

Congratulations to the Girls and Boys Bowling Team.  The Girls took 1st in the conference and had an undefeated season.  The Boys Team took 2nd place in the conference. Both teams will compete in sectionals next week.  Good Luck!

Boys Swimming

Green Bay United swam against Manitowoc Lincoln High School.  Varsity swimmer, Andrew Lee, placed first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:01.88.  Andrew also placed first in 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:08.59.  Junior Varsity Swimmer, Scott Reinsvold, placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 28.54.  There also was 16 personal records swam last night.

Ice Bears Girls Hockey

March 5, 2010
Bay Area went into the Semi-Final game against the Central WI Storm hoping to avenge their only other losses of the season and right to advance to the State Championship game. The Storm opened the scoring with a Power play goal at the 13:42 mark of the 1st period by Kylie Gazzolo with an assist from Rachel Babiarz. The final minute of the first of the 1st period was all Ice Bears tieing the game at the :46 second mark with a goal by Brittany Eland off of All State goalie Hillary Drake. Twenty four seconds later the Ice Bears scored again. Brittany Bauknecht got the goal from Maxine Blohowiak and Lauren Roethlisberger.

The Ice Bears came out in the 2nd period like they left off in the 1st with Lauren Roethlisberger scoring 1:17 into the period from Jenny Kabacinski which would be the eventual game winner. The game went back and forth with both teams killing off penalties. The Storm pulled with in one 2 minutes into the 3rd period when Cassidy Daley. Lauren Hopps was brilliant in net in the waining minutes turning away 12 shots alone in the 3rd period. Bay Area had to kill off one last penalty with 4 minutes left in the game and when the Storm pulled their goalie for an extra skater with :45 left in the game. Strong defense and heads up play limited the Storm to zero shots with the man advantage. Lauren Hopps ended up with 31 saves for the game.

Bay Area will be playing the defending State Champions St. Croix Valley Fusion tomorrow at noon. The Fusion won their game 2-0 over the University School of Milwaukee. The teams have not met this season.

Your Bay Area Ice Bears won last night 4 - 1 against Appleton United at the Cornerstone to advance to the Sectional Finals in WI Rapids. Goalie Lauren Hopps got the win with 17 saves. Bay Area scored :12 into the game off a tipped shot of Brittany Eland's by Lauren Roethlisberger. They scored two more in the 1st period, the first a Power Play goal by Frankie Janssen from Maxine Blohowiak and Allie Brunner's goal from Julianne Pleshe and Megan Stammer to make it 3 - 1 after the 1st period. A scoreless 2nd period and a late third period by Brittany Bauknecht with assists from Janssen and Blohowiak closed out the scoring.

THe Ice Bears will take on the winner of the Fond du Lac/Waupun and St. Point/WI rapids game played later on Tuesday night.

The Bay Area girls team won their 1st round playoff game with a 6-2 win over Viroqua Blackhawks at the Cornerstone Friday afternoon. Lauren Hopps was in goal stopping 13 out of 13 shots she faced and Sarah Block came in relief in the 3rd period. The Ice Bears were lead by Jenny Kabacinski and Maxine Blohowiak with 2 goals and an assist, Brittany Bauknecht with a goal and 2 assists, Brittany Eland with 2 assists, Lauren Roethlisberger with a goal and an assist each for Amber Hynnek and Frankie Janssen. The Ice Bears take on Appleton United on Tuesday at the Cornerstone (Tentative Game Time 5:00 PM).

Feb 13, 2010
The Ice Bears finished out their 1st regular season going 20-4 with a 3-0 win over Chippewa Falls on Saturday. The Ice Bears were lead in goal by Lauren Hopps who picked up the shutout win with 22 saves. Scoring for the Ice Bears was Lauren Roethlisberger with a goal, assisted by Brittany Eland and an assist on Jenny Kabacinski's goal. Also scoring for the Ice Bear was Maxine Blohowiak with an unassisted goal. The game was dedicated to the Seniors - Andrea Vertz, Amber Hynnek, Brittany Bauknecht, Mareah Meulemans and Maxine Blohowiak.

On Friday, Bay Area who is seeded 2nd in their Sectional will be taking on Viroqua at the Cornerstone at 4 PM in a Regional Final game. Please come out and support your Ice Bears as they make their run to State.

Feb 5-6, 2010
Friday night the Ice Bears ran their win streak to 12 games with a 5-1 victory of St. Point/WI Rapids Red Panthers. Scoring for the Ice Bears Maxine Blohowiak 1 goal/1 assist, Jenny Kabacinski 1 goal, Mareah Meulemans 1 goal, Lauren Roethlisberger 2 goals, Brittany Eland 1 assist, Anna Dietzen 1 assist, Amber Hynnek and Allie Brunner with 2 assists. Goalie Lauren Hopps got the win with 19 saves.

Saturday morning was a Varsity Reserve game vs Cent. WI Storm and a 2-1 victory. Sarah Block got the win in net with 20 saves. Jenny Kabacinski had a goal from Rebecca Younk and Anna Dietzen had an unassisted goal.

Saturday afternoon was a Varsity game against #2 ranked Cent. WI Storm. Bay Area scored on a Power play goal by Lauren Roethlisberger from Molly Brunette, Brittany Bauknecht. That was all the offense as the Ice Bears snapped their 12 win streak with a 3-1 loss. Goalie Lauren Hopps had 24 saves.

Maxine Blohowiak was voted Player of the month for January on a on-line site. Maxine stats for the month were 9 goals and 2 assists while the team was undefeated. Team will find out the seeding Monday for the pending playoffs.

Beaver Dam Invitational
Your Bay Area Ice Bears girls hockey team continued their winning ways by capturing their 4th tournament title by winning the Beaver Dam Invitational. Friday night saw the Ice Bears defeat Medord 7-3. Saturday had the girls in action for two games winning their 1st game 7-2 over Kettle Moraine and taking the Championship with a 3-0 shutout over home team Beaver Dam/Randolph.

The Ice Bears are currently 18-2 and ranked #3/#4 in the two HS Girls polls. Ice Bears were the only team in January to be undefeated for the month.

Arrowhead Winter Classic
Bay Area took home their 3rd tournament Championship of the season by winning the Arrowhead Winter Classic this past weekend. Playing Kettle Moraine for the 3rd straight game the Ice Bears pulled out a 5-2 victory behind two goals by Brittany Eland, power play goals by Allie Brunner and Maxine Blohowiak and a goal and an assist from Frankie Janssen. Goalie Lauren Hopps made 20 saves for the win. Picking up assists in the game were Julianne Pleshe, Brittany Bauknecht, Jennifer Kabacinski, Megan Stammer, Anna Dietzen and Lauren Roethlisberger.

In the Championship game, Bay Area faced Rock County Fury. Lauren Hopps, 24 saves, and the Bay Area defense was stellar in securing a shut out win, 1 - 0. It wasn't until 3:59 left in the 3rd period before the Ice Bears got on the board with an unassisted goal by Lauren Roethlisberger. The Fury pulled their goalie for a skater advantage but the defense and Hopps shut Rock County down to preserve the win.

Next Up - Beaver Dam Invitational Tournament January 28th - 29th.

January 16, 2010
Ice Bears traveled to Brookfield to take on Kettle Moraine on Saturday night. The Ice Bears had to battle,after beating the Glaciers 8-3 last week, to win 2-1. Brittany Eland scored in the 1st period with assists from Jenny Kabacinski and Lauren Roethlisberger. Brittany Bauknecht scored in the 2nd period with an assist from Mareah Meulemans. Goalie Lauren Hopps was outstanding in net once again turning aside 24 of 25 shots to pick up the win. Ice Bears are in the Arrowhead Invitational next week and take on Kettle Moraine yet again in the opening round.

The Ice Bears over came a 3-1 deficit after the first period with 7 unanswered goals en route to a 8-3 win over the Kettle Moraine Glaciers. Again goalie Lauren Hopps was the difference turning aside 23 of 26 shots for the win. Bay Area out shot Kettle Moraine 38 to 26. Ice Bears are 12-2 and currently ranked 4th in State.

Sertoma Shootout
Your Bay Area Girls Hockey Ice Bears were victorious during Holiday Break winning the Sertoma Shootout in Kasson, MN. The Ice Bears beat John Marshall/Lourdes (Rochester, MN) 3-1 in their opening game and beat Andrew Rattlers (Chicago) in the Semi-Finals. Wednesday Bay Area took on Luverne (MN) in the Championship game and won 9 - 2. Ice Bears goalie Lauren Hopps won the Goalie Competition held during the tournament while Lauren Roethlisberger lead the tournament in points.

Bay Area split it's two games over the weekend of December 19th-20th. Friday night the Ice Bears took on Hartland Arrowhead (2-6-2) at the historic Brown County Arena and saw them record their 5th straight win with a 7 - 2 victory. Goal tending was the difference in the game as Lauren Hopps was in goal for the win making 12 of 14 saves. The offense was provided by Maxine Blohowiak netting 6 of the 7 Ice Bears goals. The team out shot Arrowhead 33 to 14. Saturday's game had the Ice Bears traveling to #2 ranked Fond du Lac/Waupun, who was a State Champion finalist last season, and could not build on the brilliant performance of Lauren Hopps and her 34 saves in net losing 3 - 1. Bay Area was out shot 37 to 24 with Lauren Roethlisberger's unassisted goal the only offense the Ice Bears (7-2)could manage on the FDL/Waupun goalie(8-0).

Scoring for the Ice Bears was Lauren Roethlisberger with a Hat Trick, Maxine Blohowiak. Blohowiak had 2 assists, Brittany Bauknecht, Brittany Eland. Championship game was against Appleton United. Ice Bears were down 2 - 0 in the 2nd period before scoring 3 goals to gain the Championship. Goals were scored by Brittany Bauknecht , Maxine Blohowiak and Anna Dietzen with the game winner. Assisting on the goals were Blohowisk, Roethlisberger, Frankie Janssen, Bauknecht, Brittany Eland. Goalie Lauren Hopps had 7 saves in the victory.

The Bay Area Ice Bears took 2nd place in Central WI Storm's Gobbler Cup held in Mosinee this past weekend. Bay Area upset Eau Claire Stars 4-3 in thier 1st game getting the game winner with :18 seconds left in the game. Goalie Lauren Hopps got the win with 27 saves. Maxine Blohowiak had 2 goals, Allie Brunner had 1 and Lauren Roethlisberger had one goal. In the Champiosnhip game the Ice Bears fell to the host team Central WI Storm 3-0.

11/23
The team had a big crowd and they did not disappoint their fans with a 10 - 1 victory over the Northern Edge (Rhinelander/Antigo co-op). The 1st goal scored in the program was by Maxine Blohowiak with assists by Mareah Meulemans and Brittany Bauknecht. Goalie Lauren Hopps got the programs 1st win saving all 8 shots she saw in the first two period and Sarah Block stopped 2 of 3 shots in the 3rd period. Lauren Roethlisberger got the teams 1st hat trick, ending with 4 goals for the game. Other scoring was Brittany Bauknecht with 3 goals, Maxine Blohowiak 2 goals and Amber Hynnek with 1. Hynnek and Blohowiak also had 2 assists as did Molly Brunette, Frankie Janssen and Allison Brunner to round out the points.
